I spent 3 days in prison...
As an artist, I often struggle with the importance of my work and my ideas.
Is it important? Who am I anyway?! What do I matter to the billions of people in the world?
I used to wonder if that could possibly be 'enough'.
Everyone's life has a calling. I bet, if you think hard enough, you'll remember at least one moment, even 5 minutes, where you really believed you could change the world!
Maybe be famous or do something noteworthy! You may have even found yourself on a path toward that possibility!
And in that moment, every doubt that could ever enter your mind came flooding in.
That was me when I found myself standing at the gates of a women's prison.
What was this moment? How did I get here and what comes next?
As I stood in the blazing African sun with nothing but red dirt and concrete walls around me, I heard the sound of drums beating, then the gates opened and the guards summoned me to come in.
Several hundred women dressed in striped rags looked at me as I walked onto the grounds that I suddenly didn't feel worthy of.
Was I worthy to walk on the grounds of a prison?
Where criminals live?
Where did those thoughts come from?
What did the overwhelming emotion that flooded out of me in the next few minutes mean?
And why did I stay inside those prison walls for 3 days?

I want to be very honest in this moment.
I haven't shared this story with many people because it felt too sacred.
And I will share the whole thing with you.
But for now, I'll share what I discovered,
I discovered that art could do something truly powerful...
Through my art, I was able to bring those beautiful women a message of love.
